Free Hanseatic City of Lübeck was the oldest of those cities (from the 13th century) and the most important - it was called the "Queen of the Hanseatic League" ["Königin der Hanse"]. Had its own post administration and also published its own postage stamps in the years 1859-1868, when from first January joined to the general post administration of the North German Confederation. In this period, besides their own post, functioned there also two additional post offices on the basis of the an agreement in 1851: Thurn und Taxis and Danish.
