In the eighteenth century in the Ottoman Empire [Osmanlı İmparatorluğu] acted foreign post offices. The first Turkish postage stamp was issued in 1863 - the lithography includes a crescent and a tughra (type of the monogram of the monarch used in the culture of Islam) then current sultan - Abdülaziz. In 1920, the Empire signed the Peace Treaty of Sevres and then came the first stamps of the Republic of Turkey [Türkiye Cumhuriyeti], which was officially established in 1923, and its president became Mustafa Kemal Paşa (Kemal Atatürk).
